William Henry was born on 09th September, 1895 in Prescot, and was baptised on 20th October, 1895 at St Mary's Church, Prescot. He was the son of James Robinson and his wife Margaret (nee Pendleton) who were married at Prescot on 26th June, 1894.
The 1901 Census shows the family living at 22, Carlton Street, Prescot, Lancashire. His father, James, is aged 39, born 1862 in Farnworth, Lancashire, is a foreman for an insulated cable maker, his mother, Margaret, is aged 29, born 1872 in Prescot and has no occupation listed. They have three children at the time of the Census, all born in Prescot, William Henry aged 5, born 1896, Elsie aged 3, born 1898 and James aged 1, born 1900.
The 1911 Census shows the family still living at 22, Carlton Street, Prescot, Lancashire. His father James aged 50, is employed in a cable insulator room and his mother Margaret is aged 40, and has no occupation listed. They have been married for sixteen years and have had seven children of which two had died. They have five children living at the family home at the time of the Census; William Henry aged 15, is a telephone cable making assistant born 1896, Elsie aged 13 and James aged 11, are both at school, Nathan is aged 5, born 1906 and Fred aged 3, born 1908.
His father James died in December 1915 aged 55.
William enlisted at Knowsley joining the 18th Battalion of The King's Liverpool Regiment as Private 26633. He arrived overseas after 31st December 1915.
He died of wounds on 26th April 1917, aged 21.
He now rests at Warlincourt Halte Cemetery, France.
The site of the cemetery was chosen in May 1916. It was used from June 1916 to May 1917 by the 20th and 43rd Casualty Clearing Stations, in February 1917 by the 1/1st South Midland, and from April to June 1917 by the 32nd. The whole of plots VII, VIII, IX and X were filled in April and May 1917, the months of the Battles of Arras. From June 1917, the cemetery was practically unused until the fighting of May and June 1918, when field ambulances buried in it. After the Armistice the cemetery was increased by graves brought in from small military cemeteries:-
The cemetery now contains 1,266 Commonwealth burials of the First World War. There are also 29 German and two French war graves.
The cemetery was designed by Charles Holden.
He earned two medals.
