William Edgar Boyes was born 1890 at Liverpool and was the son of John and Eliza Ann Boyes and the husband of Marie Boyes (nee Ellames) of 4 Needham Road, Kensington, Liverpool. Marie was born 18th July 1890. They married at St Cyprian’s, C. of E, Church, Edge Hill on 22nd April 1916, William was aged 25 as was Marie. They had a daughter Marion born 19th February 1917.
The 1911 Census shows the family living at 2 Alma St Liverpool.
The father John aged 48, born 1863 is a cotton porter and was born in Liverpool. His wife Eliza Ann is aged 48, born 1863 a housewife born in Nantwich. They had been married for 29 years and had eight children of which five had died, Walter aged 23, born 1888 and William Edgar aged 20, born both seed crushers in a oil cake mills and Janet aged 18, born 1893 a cigar maker in a tobacco factory.
He enlisted in Liverpool and was serving in the 20th Battalion, The King’s Liverpool Regiment as Private No 25315 when he died of wounds on the 15th September, 1917 during the Third Battle of Ypres.
He now lies in Voormezeele Cemetery Enclosures No.1 and No.2, Belgium.
He is also commemorated on the St Cyprian’s, C. of E, Church, Edge Hill and J Bibby and Sons Ltd.
