Thomas Hugh was born on 03rd May 1891 in Bootle the son of William Parry and his wife Ann (nee Owen). Both parents were born in Anglesey. He was the youngest of 4 children, his siblings were; John, William and Elizabeth. 

The 1901 Census shows the family living at 46 Boswell Street, Bootle. Thomas H. is nine years old and lives with his parents and three siblings. His father is a 56 year old joiner born in Llangefni, his mother is 43 years of age. His siblings are recorded as; John a 15 year old joiner's apprentice, William H. is 14 and Elizabeth C. is 12.

The 1911 Census shows the family are now living at 53 Percy Street, Bootle. His father is 65 years old and employed as a ships joiner, his mother is recorded as 52 years old. They have been married for 26 years and have had four children. There are two children in the household, Elizabeth C. now aged 22 with no occupation recorded, and Thomas Hugh, a 19 year old joiner's labourer.


Thomas enlisted in Bootle and served in the 17th Battalion of The King's Liverpool Regiment as Private 43483.

He was captured, unwounded, at Savy on 02nd March 1918 during the German Spring Offensive. He was held prisoner at Glessen POW camp, north of Frankfurt. The records show him listed as an Engineer by trade.

The Liverpool Echo of 14th May 1918 shows him listed as missing. 

Thomas died of pneumonia on 02nd August 1918 aged 27 in a hospital at Weidenau.

He now rests at Cologne Southern Cemetery.

In 1922 it was decided to concentrate the graves of servicemen who had died in Germany into four cemeteries at Kassel, Berlin, Hamburg. and Cologne.  Over the course of the following year graves were transferred to Cologne Southern Cemetery from over 180 different burial sites.

Thomas earned two medals the Victory Medal and British War Medal indicating that he did not serve overseas until 1916.
