John Albert Cunniffe was born in 1893 in Chester, the son of Mr and Mrs Cunniffe of 230 Alton Street, Crewe.

 

He enlisted in Liverpool  and was in the 17th Battalion, The King’s Liverpool Regiment as Private No 26152 before being killed in action on the 20th September 1917 aged 24 whilst serving with the Machine Gun Corps as a Lance Corporal (No: 22804.)

 

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

 

He is also commemorated on the War Memorial at Crewe Mechanics Institute.
